Kabul, Afghanistan – The United States government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), donated 100 state-of-the-art ventilators to assist Afghanistan in its fight against COVID-19. The ventilators will be distributed to hospitals in the provinces most affected by COVID-19. This donation delivers on President Donald Trump’s generous offer of these life-saving and critically needed supplies and supports Afghanistan’s urgent response to the pandemic.

USAID and MAIL Launch New Agricultural Projects in Afghanistan

U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director Herbie Smith and the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) Minister Naseer Durrani launched two new value chain projects to improve Afghanistan’s agricultural sector. The main objectives of the programs are to drive job creation and increase rural incomes through support to key actors along the livestock and high value crops value chains. These programs will: (1) generate revenue and sustainable jobs; (2) increase the capacity of key value chain businesses; and (3) facilitate the ability of businesses to sell high quality products both domestically and internationally.

Afghan Women Advocate for Change through U.S.-Supported Promote Program

Dr. Abdullah Abdullah today acknowledged the achievements of more than 1,500 women activists and 190 civil society organizations working to empower women across Afghanistan, honoring two years of accomplishments by beneficiaries of the USAID-funded Promote Musharikat program. Promote is a partnership between the government of Afghanistan and USAID to secure the gains in women’s empowerment realized over the last decade.
