Kabul, Afghanistan – The United States government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), donated 100 state-of-the-art ventilators to assist Afghanistan in its fight against COVID-19. The ventilators will be distributed to hospitals in the provinces most affected by COVID-19. This donation delivers on President Donald Trump’s generous offer of these life-saving and critically needed supplies and supports Afghanistan’s urgent response to the pandemic.

Afghan and Indian Health Organizations Expanding Quality Healthcare in Afghanistan

Three Indian health organizations signed contracts with an Afghan health company at the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) to expand the provision of quality healthcare in Afghanistan. The contracts, with an estimated value of $6.5 million, aim to establish a fully equipped diagnostic center, an advanced dialysis center, and a manufacturing plant for the production of pharmaceuticals in Kabul. This builds on the initial talks in the USAID sponsored Passage to Prosperity: India-Afghanistan Trade and Investment Show in 2018.

USAID Supports Ministry of Higher Education’s Solar Energy System

The Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) inaugurated a solar energy system to power their Information Communication Technology (ICT) system. This state-of-the-art solar energy power system will provide electrical supply to the Ministry’s ICT system to improve reliability and reduce down time.

Exporters of high-value Afghan food products will showcase their goods for international buyers this week at the Gulfood Exhibition, the world’s largest food and beverage trade show. Over 50 Afghan businesses are attending the five-day exhibition in Dubai from February 17 to 21 to meet prospective buyers, with over half of them displaying Afghanistan’s finest fruits, saffron, nuts, spices, vegetables and juices. Last year, Afghan businesses inked over $27 million in signed and potential deals for Afghan agricultural products.

Women Graduate from USAID's Civil Service Internship Program in Balkh

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Promote: Women in Government (WIG) project, hosted a graduation ceremony to recognize 132 female interns who completed the project’s year-long internship program in Balkh province. The internship program equips women with the knowledge and skills to join the Afghan civil service. This set of graduates received a government-issued certificate that is equivalent to one year of work experience—making graduates eligible for government jobs.
