Mission Director

Sheryl Stumbras, a member of the Senior Foreign Service, was sworn in as the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director for Zambia on July 2018 on July 18, 2019.  She has served in Southern and East Africa for 20 years, most recently as the Deputy Mission Director of USAID/Mozambique for five years . Prior to this, she was the Director for USAID’s Office of Democracy, Human Rights and Governance in both Zimbabwe and Kenya.

Before joining USAID’s Foreign Service, Ms. Stumbras worked as a senior technical advisor, trainer and facilitator providing support to 18 USAID Missions worldwide. She led assessments, designed strategies, conducted evaluations and created monitoring, learning and evaluation systems across porgrams in broad range of sectors, including: population, health, and nutrition; economic growth; natural resource management; and democracy and governance programs. She also served as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in Botswana.

A native of Wisconsin, Ms. Stumbras received a Bachelor of Business Degree in Finance and Investment Banking from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and a Juris Doctor in Law from William Mitchel College of Law.
