Dr. Erik Janowsky is a career Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Agency for International Development.  He began his service with the federal government at the Peace Corps in Washington in 2002 and has been with USAID since 2004.  

Erik started his career with USAID as a Health Officer and has served as a Health or General Development Officer leading teams in Washington and overseas in Uganda, Peru, Guatemala and Afghanistan.  In 2015 he returned to Peru as the Deputy Mission Director and most recently served as the Global Fund Liaison for the USAID-led President's Malaria Initiative before being assigned Country Representative in North Macedonia.

Erik has over 25 years of international development experience.  Prior to joining USAID, he was Peace Corps' Global Specialist for HIV/AIDS and covered countries in Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Pacific.  He co-founded a nonprofit organization in Ecuador with his mentor, Fr. Theodore M. Hesburgh, President Emeritus of Notre Dame.  Erik served as President and CEO Workforce Development Services in South Bend, Indiana.  He was also a research fellow and visiting faculty member at the University of Notre Dame's Institute for Latino Studies.

Erik served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ecuador after graduating from Notre Dame. At Tulane University, he researched and advocated for street children in Guatemala and Honduras as part of his masters and doctoral work. Dr. Janowsky has a B.A. in Biology and English from Notre Dame, and a MA and a PhD in Latin American Studies and International Development from Tulane.  Erik's wife, Gloria, is from Ecuador and is an avid photographer.  They have two children starting their own adventures this fall- Ian (17), who is attending NYU Tisch School of the Arts; and Isabella (13), who will attend boarding school in London.
