Mission Director

Ms. Deborah Grieser joined USAID/Armenia as Mission Director in July 2016.  In this capacity, she oversees the Mission’s development assistance portfolio in support of more inclusive and sustainable economic growth, participatory and accountable governance, and health and social sector reform.

A career Senior Foreign Service officer, Ms. Grieser served as Director of the USAID Europe and Eurasia Bureau’s Technical Support Office from 2013 to 2016, and was responsible for oversight of the Bureau’s Washington-based regional portfolio of programs in Democracy and Governance, Economic Growth, Energy, and Health. 

As Director of the Office of Sudan and South Sudan Programs from 2010-2013, Ms. Grieser led the agency task force to establish a stand-alone USAID Mission in Juba following South Sudan’s independence in 2011. 

Ms. Grieser served as Deputy Mission Director in USAID/Uganda from 2007-2009, and as Controller in USAID Missions in Ukraine, Ghana, Senegal, Guinea, and Rwanda.

In 2010, Ms. Grieser earned a master’s degree in National Security Strategy from the National War College at the National Defense University.  Prior to beginning her public service as a Peace Corps volunteer in Malawi, Ms. Grieser worked for Ernst & Whinney (now Ernst & Young) in Chicago.
