January 14, 2021, Tashkent, Uzbekistan – New standards of educational achievement by grade and subject are being launched by the Ministry of Public Education in partnership with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).  Having clear expectations for each school grade about what students are expected to know and do will then enable the Ministry to develop the appropriate curriculum, textbooks, and teacher guides that teach the required skills.  These are one of the foundational elements of building a quality education system that can produce graduates with the critical thinking, problem solving, and practical skills that are needed for them to be successful in Uzbekistan’s economy.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), in cooperation with the Standardization, Metrology and Certification Agency of Uzbekistan (UzStandard) published a comprehensive manual for Uzbekistan’s farmers and agri-firms that will help them compete in international markets by adopting good agricultural practices in line with the international GLOBALG.A.P. standard. GLOBALG.A.P. is the world’s largest agriculture certification program, setting criteria for agribusinesses and minimizing the risks of tainted food entering world markets.

The United States, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), delivered 131,320 kg of food assistance worth almost $400,000 to Uzbekistan. This food assistance will reach more than 35,000 of the most vulnerable Uzbekistani citizens and be distributed through more than 144 health and social protection facilities. This includes facilities that are providing COVID-19 related quarantine services, long-term care to patients with multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (TB), to orphanages and mental health facilities.

In commemoration of World Tuberculosis (TB) Day, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is proud of the shared gains with the Government of Uzbekistan achieved over the past two decades in the fight against this deadly but curable disease. USAID in partnership with the National TB Program has introduced the most modern anti-TB medications and new treatment models to Uzbekistan, trained health care workers to implement international TB control standards, and improved the capacity of laboratories by introducing rapid diagnosis tools such as GeneXpert machines.

On March 17, the U.S. Embassy handed over personal protective equipment (PPE) to the Agency for Sanitary and Epidemiological Wellbeing (ASEW) as part of the United States’ second PPE donation to Uzbekistan to prepare for the potential spread of the novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19.

Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, officially launched its new five-year tuberculosis (TB) program that will provide targeted investments to further reduce the burden of tuberculosis on Uzbekistanis.  The First Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Bakhodir Yusupaliev; U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Uzbekistan, Daniel N. Rosenblum; and the World Health Organization (WHO) Representative in Uzbekistan Dr. Lianne Kuppens participated in the event.

Today, USAID’s Smart Waters project convened water sector national partners from five Central Asian countries and Afghanistan for the eighth Regional Steering Committee for water coordination in Burabay, Kazakhstan. The meeting facilitated the exchange of information and ideas among participating countries and the sharing of national best practices at a regional level.
