November 16, 2020 – Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) launched the tenth annual Central Asia Trade Forum, an international event promoting regional trade and connectivity across Central Asia and beyond. This year’s five-day virtual event includes 100 speakers and 4000 registered participants representing 39 countries including the USA, Afghanistan, Georgia, Germany, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, UAE, UK, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan, among others.

This year’s theme Central Asia – Growth and Prosperity explores new trends and market reactions in Central Asia during the post COVID-19 economic recovery. The virtual event is available across multiple online platforms, including Zoom, Facebook Live and YouTube, bringing together global and local experts, innovators and dynamic business people to build connections that are vital to boosting Central Asian trade.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is supporting a private Turkmen logistics company, Shaylan Economic Society, to fully digitize all its warehouse and transportation management systems. Shaylan is a warehouse and distribution pioneer in Turkmenistan operating warehouses, cold storage facilities and a fleet of refrigerated trucks.

Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded Smart Waters program, implemented by the Central Asia Regional Environmental Center (CAREC), handed over fourteen units of automated water flow measuring equipment to the State Committee on Water Management. This equipment will be installed at fourteen locations along the Murghab river in the eastern Mary province of Turkmenistan.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Safe Migration in Central Asia program, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Office of the Ombudsman of Turkmenistan held an online webinar on eradicating forced labor and human trafficking under Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Target 8.7. Representatives of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, Mejlis of Turkmenistan, Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, Institute of Statehood, Democracy and Law of Turkmenistan, General Prosecutor’s Office, Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan, Ministry of Trade of Turkmenistan, and Trade Union of Turkmenistan attended the event.

Today is World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. To mark this important day, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded Safe Migration in Central Asia program, with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Turkmenistan, the USAID-funded Governance Support Program, International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the National Working Group on countering human trafficking in Turkmenistan is launching a “100 Days Against Human Trafficking” public awareness campaign.

The United States Government through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has committed an additional $500,000 to support Turkmenistan’s COVID-19 prevention efforts, bringing the total U.S. Government resources made available to all partners in Turkmenistan to $1.42 million. The additional funding will be provided to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Turkmenistan to improve risk communication and infection prevention and control efforts.  These efforts, implemented in cooperation with the Government of Turkmenistan, will align with Turkmenistan’s Preparedness Plan for Combatting Acute Infectious Disease and Implementing Rapid Response Measures.
