Fedha hizi ni nyongeza ya msaada wa Dola za Kimarekani milioni 1 unaolenga kusaidia mapambano dhidi ya janga la COVID-19 uliotolewa hivi karibuni na kufanya kiasi kipya cha fedha zilizotolewa kwa Tanzania ili kukabiliana na janga hili kufikia Dola za Kimarekani milioni 3.4.

Dar es Salaam: Marekani imetangaza kuwa kupitia Shirika lake la Maendeleo ya Kimataifa (USAID) itaongeza kiasi cha Dola za Kimarekani milioni 2.4 (Takriban Shilingi za Kitanzania bilioni 5.6), ikiwa ni msaada kwa sekta ya afya nchini Tanzania.  Msaada huu unalenga kuimarisha uwezo wa maabara na upimaji wa kimaabara (laboratory capacity for optimal diagnostics), kusaidia jitihada za utoaji taarifa (risk communication) , miradi ya maji na usafi wa mazingira (water and sanitation), kuzuia na kudhibiti maambukizi,  kutoa elimu ya afya kwa umma (public health messaging) na miradi mingine. Fedha hizi ni nyongeza ya msaada wa Dola za Kimarekani milioni 1 unaolenga kusaidia mapambano dhidi ya janga la COVID-19 uliotolewa hivi karibuni na kufanya kiasi kipya cha fedha zilizotolewa kwa Tanzania ili kukabiliana na janga hili kufikia Dola za Kimarekani milioni 3.4. Isitoshe, kiasi kingine cha Dola za Kimarekani milioni 1.9 zimebadilishwa matumizi na kuelekezwa kwenye mapambano dhidi ya janga hili. Hii inafanya jumla ya fedha zote zilizotolewa na Marekani katika kukabiliana na COVID-19 nchini Tanzania hadi hivi sasa kufikia Dola za Kimarekani milioni 5.3 (Sawa na Shilingi za Kitanzania bilioni 12.2).

Mradi huu unakuza usawa wa kijinsia, ushiriki wa kisiasa, na uwezeshaji wa wanawake kuweza kupata nafasi muhimu za uongozi. USAID inakusudia kuhakikisha kuwa wanawake wanaongoza na kushiriki katika michakato ya kisiasa na uchaguzi-kama wapiga kura, wagombea, na wawakilishi waliochaguliwa.
