The following is attributable to Acting Spokesperson Tom Babington:
U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Mark Green visited Quito, Ecuador May 14-15, 2019. The Administrator met with Vice President of the Republic of Ecuador Otto Sonnenholzner to discuss the renewal of cooperation between USAID and the Ecuadorian public, private sector, and civil-society institutions, as well as key challenges that are facing the region, including the dire situation in Venezuela and its impact on neighboring countries.
Administrator Green and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility of the Republic of Ecuador José Valencia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to expand the Agency's partnership with Ecuador. The MOU demonstrates USAID's commitment to helping Ecuador on its Journey to Self-Reliance, which builds on Ecuadorian President Lenín Moreno's commitment to democratic strengthening and development.
The Administrator also met with the First Lady of the Republic of Ecuador Rocío González de Moreno and the Technical Secretary of President Moreno's Plan Toda Una Vida Isabel Maldonado Vasco to discuss possible areas of cooperation on social development; held a civil-society roundtable; toured the Pacari chocolate store launched with USAID financing; and met with vulnerable Venezuelans who are sheltering in Ecuador and receiving support from USG partners.
