Jotham Johnson has dedicated his whole life to defending human rights and empowering young Sierra Leaneans to reach their full potential. Jotham, a YALI RLC West Africa alum, is a Human Rights Officer and Manager at the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone. He is a youth empowerment activist and the founder of his own outreach platform, Adeyemisoutpour, which uses social media channels and in-person events to motivate Sierra Leonean youth to “spread the message of hope and never give up.”
With 20 years of development experience, Ms. Kendra Schoenholz is the Mission Director for USAID/Guinea and Sierra Leone. Before coming to Guinea, Ms. Schoenholz studied at the National War College, earning a Master's degree in national security strategy. In her prior overseas assignment, Ms. Schoenholz served as the Deputy Mission Director in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In this role, she provided strategic-level programmatic direction and operational oversight for $600 million of development and humanitarian assistance in the DRC. Ms. Schoenholz has also served in Senegal, Iraq, Sudan (now South Sudan), Thailand, Afghanistan, and Cambodia, first as an Auditor with the Office of Inspector General and then as a Controller in the Office of Financial Management. Prior to USAID, Ms. Schoenholz worked for the United Nations Office of Internal Oversight Services as well as Deloitte and Touche, LLP. In addition to the Master's degree in national security strategy, Ms. Schoenholz holds a Master's degree in accounting and a Bachelor’s degree in linguistics.
On Thursday, October 10, 2019, the Minister of Health and Sanitation of Sierra Leone, Professor Alpha T. Wurie along with U.S. Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Marie E. Brewer participated in the official signing ceremony and public hand over of the USAID funded Impact Malaria project. The event took place in Bo District, in the southern province of Sierra Leone, in the presence of high-ranking Sierra Leonean health officials and community and traditional authorities.
In 2017, when SkyFox began implementing the Integrated Aquaculture and Crop Production Project funded by USAID, Fatmata Tarawally had long held the ambition to become a major fish farmer and supplier in Macbafth community, Tonkolili District in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone. She sells rice at the market to help her husband who is a carpenter, to raise their three children.
When World Fish began implementing the USAID-funded Feed the Future Scaling Up Aquaculture Production (SAP) project in Sierra Leone in 2015, inland fish-farming for business was a relatively new concept in the country.
