U.S. National Security Advisor Reaffirms Alliance, Announces Military Assistance and Typhoon Relief during Philippines Visit

U.S. National Security Advisor (NSA) Robert C. O’Brien met with Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, Secretary of Foreign Affairs Teodoro Locsin Jr., Secretary of Finance Carlos “Sonny” Dominguez, National Security Advisor Hermogenes Esperon, Undersecretary for the Department of National Defense (DND) Cardozo Luna and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Deputy Chief of Staff Rear Admiral Erick Kagaoan in Manila on November 23. NSA O’Brien visited the Philippines to affirm the strength of the U.S.-Philippines alliance and the depth of the broader bilateral relationship. While in Manila, he announced the delivery of new U.S. military assistance in support of the Philippines’ emergency counterterrorism needs. He also announced additional disaster relief for recent typhoon victims.

New Php870M USAID Project to Strengthen Water Security in Palawan, Negros Occidental, and Sarangani

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the provinces of Palawan, Negros Occidental, and Sarangani to address water security challenges faced by communities there. USAID Acting Mission Director Patrick Wesner led the signing ceremony together with representatives from the Philippine government and private sector, including National Economic and Development Authority Assistant Director General Roderick Planta, Palawan Governor Jose Chaves Alvarez, Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, and Sarangani Governor Steve Chiongbian Solon.

U.S. Provides Php9.7M of Critical Relief to Communities Affected by Super Typhoon Rolly

The U.S. government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), will provide Php9.7 million ($200,000) to support the Philippine government’s efforts to assist families hardest hit by Super Typhoon Rolly. More than 2 million people were affected by the typhoon, and over 1 million Filipinos are currently in government evacuation centers.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Philippine Business for Education (PBEd), and the Office of the Vice President of the Philippines (OVP) today launched a partnership to provide free technical-vocational skills and employability training for over 1,000 unemployed and out-of-school Filipino youth.

New U.S. Government Assistance Protects Philippine Communities from Natural Disasters
