USAID supports the development of a Nicaragua, in which all citizens benefit from democratic governance, prosperity and security. Our assistance focuses on strengthening participatory democracy, promoting local governance, and improving citizen security along Nicaragua’s Caribbean Coast and targeted areas. We support civil society actors, so that they can effectively advocate for transparent, accountable and participatory decision-making and strengthen oversight; independent media to elevate the voice of Nicaraguans; and engage Nicaraguan youth in democratic leadership training. USAID also improves early grade literacy, promotes social inclusion, provides at-risk youth with basic skills to compete in the job market, and builds community support for developing safe learning environments.
