U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Mark Green visited Bogota, Colombia May 13-14. On May 13, Administrator Green and President Duque announced an agreement to expand the scope of the two countries' Development Objective Assistance Agreement. USAID's $160 million contribution to this bilateral agreement reaffirms the two countries' continued support and collaboration. Administrator Green and President Duque also met with the Mayor of Ovejas to celebrate the USAID-funded land titling pilot project, which is Colombia's first massive land-formalization and multi-purpose registry project. Land-formalization is a key step to mitigating conflict, strengthening the economy, and reducing inequality in rural areas.

Administrator Green met with Afro-Colombian and Indigenous People leaders to hear more about issues facing marginalized communities in Colombia. Administrator Green also met with Venezuelans who have fled to Colombia, as well as members of the Venezuelan National Assembly, to discuss the need for the restoration of human dignity and freedom in Venezuela. The Administrator reaffirmed the United States' commitment to the people of Venezuela as they peacefully restore constitutional order and democracy to their country.

On May 14, Administrator Green spoke at the 2019 Concordia Americas Summit, where he highlighted the development agreement signed with the Government of Colombia, the United States' support for the people of Venezuela, the state of democracy in Latin America, and the journey to self reliance, including the important role human dignity and self-empowerment play in international development.
