During his recent visit to Kosovo, USAID’s Deputy Director of Technical Support Robert Camilleri spent a day with the USAID Advancing Kosovo Together – Local Solutions (AKT-LS) team and its beneficiaries in Mitrovica North. Camilleri was able to see a wide array of AKT-LS projects, starting with an e-kiosk that provides basic municipal e-services and has increased the efficiency of local administration. He also met with two of the program’s small business beneficiaries: Vesna Tanic, who produces handmade clothes and accessories; and Tihomir Markovic, who provides catering, laundry, and vehicle inspection services. The Deputy Director then met with civil society representatives to discuss the importance of open communications and cooperation between civil society and the local and central governments. The day ended with a visit to two schools in Zvečan/Zveçan, which received USAID grants through AKT-LS for new IT equipment to improve the quality of practical courses.
