On Friday, November 20, USAID lost a dear colleague and friend, Anita Datar, in the terrorist attack at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Bamako, Mali. Anita, a Senior Health Scientist for the Palladium Group, was in Bamako working on the USAID-funded Health Policy Plus project to improve reproductive health throughout Mali by engaging with community, religious, women and youth groups. Anita was also a founding member of Tulalens, a non-governmental organization working to provid quality health services to under-served communities around the world.

This report presents the results of a climate vulnerability mapping exercise that is intended to assist the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/Mali with strategic planning. The approach utilizes a spatial vulnerability index comprising 18 indicators that are rouped into three vulnerability components: climate exposure, sensitivity, and adaptive capacity.

Reports of GBV in Northern Mali stemming from the 2012 rebellion and occupation are alarming.  People living in the North suffered the brunt of socio-political and economic consequences of the armed occupation.   During and following the crisis, the situation for women deteriorated dramatically.

Sixteen agricultural science students from Mali are set to embark on a program sponsored by the U.S. Government under the Feed the Future initiative and designed to strengthen the agricultural research capacity of Malian institutions. The students will first study intensive English for six months before pursuing Masters and PhD-level degrees in various agricultural fields at African higher education institutions in Kenya, Ghana and South Africa.

In the spirit of Aid effectiveness and the premise that development built on collaboration is more likely to engender local leadership and ownership, and turn good ideas into lasting results, USAID/Mali hereby invites review and comment on its Results Framework Paper (RF Paper). The RF Paper will inform USAID/Mali's Country Development Cooperation Strategy for 2015-2019. In the coming months, USAID/Mali will consult with the host government, donors, key stakeholders including civil society and the private sector on this strategic framework.
