In early November, staff and students at the University of Prishtina’s Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine took the first x-ray of an animal in Kosovo. Professor Daniël Cronk from the University of Minnesota led a week-long workshop on radiology, setting up and using radiology equipment at the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary. “The radiology equipment had been sitting unused for a year at the faculty,” explained professor Cronk. “We took the time to walk through how to use the equipment in detail during the workshop.”
During the sessions, professor Cronk spent extra time emphasizing proper radiation safety measures. At the end of the workshop, UP students and staff performed the first-known x-rays of a dog and a cat in Kosovo. This workshop was part of a series of activities that University of Minnesota professors organized at the University of Pristina during their visit. The University of Minnesota is partnered with the UP Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine through our Transformational Leadership Program – Partnership component, which aims to increase research capacities and improve student services, among other things. Faculty also sat in on a lecture by Professor David Baumler. Professor Baumler lectured on research methodology and explained his own research on chili peppers in the state of Minnesota and across the world. Professor Baulmer also worked closely with academic staff on designing the curricula for a new microbiology Bachelor’s and Master’s program.
The Transformational Leadership Program - Scholarships and Partnerships (TLP-SP) is a partnership co-funded by USAID-Kosovo and the Government of Kosovo and administered by World Learning.
