As part of his recent visit to Gjilan, U.S. Ambassador Philip S. Kosnett inaugurated a new makerspace, which provides skills-building opportunities to local youth. USAID, through its After School Support for Teens activity, is partnering with secondary schools and municipalities throughout Kosovo to establish career and enterprise hubs, encourage the use of modern technology, and train and mentor teachers in partner schools. During 2019, USAID and municipal partners will open six additional centers in Viti, Kamenica, Hani i Elezit, Vushtrri, Fushe Kosove, and Ferizaj. To date, USAID has signed agreements with seven municipalities, bringing the total number of partner municipalities to 16.
In addition to launching the makerspace, Ambassador Kosnett met with free legal clinic advocates, municipal government representatives, a USAID supported school in Livoc I Ulet through Peace Corps volunteers, and to see first-hand how the municipality of Gjilan is meeting citizens’ needs.
