Law students from the University of Mitrovica scored a win at this year’s Mock Trial Competition, which took place in Pristina end of May 2019. USAID’s Justice Matters activity, the Kosovo Bar Association, Pristina Basic Court, and five public universities sponsored the contest, which drew participation from more than 120 students.
The mock trial allows students to prepare for and take part in a hypothetical courtroom trial. Students assume the roles of attorneys, prosecution lawyers, and judges, and present closing arguments for both sides of the case. Through this exercise, students gain a deeper understanding of the law, court procedures, and the legal system in Kosovo.
During his remarks, Besfort Rrecaj, the vice dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Pristina, thanked USAID for its ongoing support and announced that the University of Pristina will organize this event in the future. Mr. Rrecaj also called on other universities to collaborate with the University of Pristina on subsequent editions.
