United States Secretary of State Pompeo announced a new State Department and USAID assistance package to combat COVID-19 globally.  This new assistance package supports Kosovo’s pandemic response with an additional $500,000.  To date, the American people have committed nearly $1.6 million to help Kosovo fight COVID-19.

As part of the first package of USAID assistance, UNICEF through its partners distributed more than 9,000 hygiene kits to families in all of Kosovo’s municipalities.  In addition to Kosovo’s most vulnerablefamilies, health centers throughout Kosovo are also receiving hygiene kits from the USAID-supported partnership between UNICEF, the Kosovo Ministry of Health, and Red Cross Kosova.

To distribute the hygiene kits to health centers, USAID carried out visits to Gračanica/Graçanicë, Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje, and Zubin Potok Health Centers on April 30, May 7, and May 15, respectively.  During these visits, the USAID/Kosovo Mission Director Lisa Magno met with heads of the health centers and spoke about the distribution of hygiene kits in Serb-majority municipalities.  These centers are among the 239 health centers in Kosovo that are receiving support from USAID in partnership with UNICEF.
