On May 22, 2019, government partners and USAID, through its Local Effective Governance Activity, organized a conference on gender equality at the municipal level.  Participants, including representatives from the Agency for Gender Equality, the Ministry of Local Government Administration, and 15 municipal governments, identified key interventions to promote greater inclusion of women in decision-making processes at the municipal level.  Interventions include strengthening cooperation between central- and local-level government offices on gender equality, improving municipal regulations, and defining the role of the municipal officer for gender equality. 

At the local level in Kosovo, women continue to face challenges in participating in policy and budget development, among other decision-making processes.  To provide more opportunities for women’s engagement and to strengthen responsive, democratic governance in Kosovo, USAID is partnering with local governments to improve civic engagement at the municipal level.
