New Economic Opportunities for Northern Kosovo promotes economic development in the agriculture sector by providing farmers with micro grants and technical support.
OBJECTIVES
The New Economic Opportunities for Northern Kosovo activity is an 18-month activity tailored to assist farmers in the northern part of Kosovo. The activity, through direct assistance to farmers with microgrants and technical support, aims to enhance relations with other regions in Kosovo; and provides opportunities for the younger generation to engage in the sector by applying their learning through practice in internship programs.
The objectives will be achieved through the following key activities:
- Provide at least 70 micro grants in the agriculture sector and provide technical support to farmers in four northern municipalities of Kosovo
- Provide at least 100 internships to young people in four northern municipalities of Kosovo
EXPECTED RESULTS
- More than 70 farmers benefit from grants and/or technical assistance
- Employment generated in the amount of at least 300 full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs
- Market chain linkages improved in minority businesses
- At least 400,000 euros in revenues generated from beneficiaries by the end of the project
- Internship opportunities provided for at least 100 youth
- Technical advice and training provided on how to utilize efficiently the greenhouses
- Up to at least 100 interns trained on basic soft skills
RESULTS TO DATE
- 71 greenhouses provided to farmers in four northern municipalities of Kosovo
- 92 contracts valued at more than 150,000 euros signed between farmers and aggregators/buyers for the next season
- 100 interns selected and placed at businesses in four northern municipalities of Kosovo
- 100 interns trained on basic soft skills with 51 of them obtaining employment contracts
