Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan - Today, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Acting Assistant Administrator Javier Piedra met with Kazakhstan International Development Agency (KazAID) Coordinator Rapil Zhoshybaev to strengthen cooperation on development and humanitarian assistance and explore future strategic opportunities for collaboration between the two agencies.

Also in attendance were U.S. Consul General Eric Meyer, USAID Regional Mission Director for Central Asia Christopher Edwards, from the U.S. Mission to Kazakhstan, and Head of Multilateral Economic Cooperation and Official Development Assistance Unit Asset Makhmetov, and Member of the Working Group on the Establishment of KazAID Ainur Tuimebekova, from the Kazakhstan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) continues providing remote support to its energy counterparts. Today, USAID successfully conducted an online workshop for working group members from the Central Asian Ministries of Energy, utilities and power system operators to discuss electricity markets and their operation.

The U.S. Government through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has committed $2 million dollars to protect migrants in Central Asia during the COVID-19 pandemic. This support will be delivered through the ongoing USAID-funded Safe Migration in Central Asia project, implemented by Winrock International.

As part of the comprehensive response against COVID-19 pandemic, the United States Government announced an additional $1.5 million in funding through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to Kazakhstan. To date USAID has provided approximately $3.11 million in new emergency relief funding to help Kazakhstan respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. This assistance comes in addition to other health sector assistance provided by the Centers for Disease Control at$1.6 million that is also contributing to Kazakhstan’s efforts to combat COVID-19.

The U.S. Government through its Agency for International Development (USAID) provided more than 321 million tenge ($750,000) to support Kazakhstan’s response efforts against the recent measles outbreak. USAID is providing these funds through the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to identify root causes of the measles outbreak, raise public awareness about the issue, and train healthcare professionals to strengthen immunization efforts.

The United States Government, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), has committed an additional 214 million tenge ($500,000), bringing the total U.S. Government contribution to over 1.6 billion tenge ($3.79 million) to support Kazakhstan’s efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. The additional funding will be provided to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Kazakhstan to improve risk communication and bolster infection prevention and control efforts.

The United States Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), has committed an additional 348 million tenge ($800,000) to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak in Kazakhstan.

The U.S. government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has committed approximately 365 million tenge (more than $800,000) to support Kazakhstan’s efforts against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Today, the United States through its Agency for International Development (USAID) handed over personal protective equipment (PPE) to the City Center for Ambulance Services in Nur-Sultan.  This equipment is part of the United States government’s early assistance to Kazakhstan to prepare for the potential spread of the novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19.  In addition to the PPE, USAID has also allocated additional funding to support Kazakhstan’s response to COVID-19.
