Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan - On February 28, the Kazakhstan Judicial Program in cooperation with the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan organized a roundtable to discuss current issues of investment proceedings and intellectual property rights.

Participants discussed challenges and perspectives of investment dispute resolution and provided recommendations for improving the investment climate and protection of intellectual property rights of investors. Following the roundtable, the Supreme Court will revise the adopted recommendations and distribute to all stakeholders. Azar Aliyev, Associate Professor of the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg, shared best practices and presented international experience in terms of investment proceedings and protection of intellectual property rights.

“The Kazakhstan Judicial Program, supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) began cooperating with the Investment Dispute Panel of the Supreme Court in its earliest days and held events to improve the country's investment climate by focusing on protecting investors’ rights and creating new tools to resolve investment disputes”, said U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Ted Lyng in his opening remarks. “The United States and Kazakhstan continue to collaborate on improving the Kazakhstani investment climate and promoting bilateral investment.”

The roundtable is held on an annual basis since 2017. It serves as a platform and gives an opportunity for representatives of governmental bodies and investment, consulting companies to openly discuss actual issues of investment proceedings and intellectual property rights and develop ways and further recommendations of improving the investment climate.
