AMMAN, JORDAN (Oct. 20) – The U.S. Embassy in Amman welcomed to Jordan this month new United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director Sherry F. Carlin. Ms. Carlin formally assumed her duties in a virtual ceremony with U.S. Ambassador Henry Wooster on October 15 while Ms. Carlin remained in quarantine following the Jordanian Ministry of Health guidelines. She stated, “I am delighted to be here, and I look forward to continuing to build on the U.S.-Jordanian partnership. For seventy years, the United States and Jordan have partnered to build lasting infrastructure and systems, to support Jordan’s invaluable human resources, and to improve essential service delivery to meet the needs of people across the Kingdom.” Prior to her arrival in Jordan, Ms. Carlin served as Mission Director for USAID’s mission in Egypt and has been an integral part of USAID’s relief and development efforts across the globe for more than twenty years. A native of Florida, Ms. Carlin holds a MS from the National War College, an MPH in health policy, and a BS in nursing from Emory University in Atlanta.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), in cooperation with the Jordan Ministry of Water and Irrigation, announced its plans to protect the country’s scarce water supply through two new major commitments to Jordan’s water sector.

Today the United States and the Ministry of Public Works and Housing announced the award of 14 new contracts to 11 Jordanian firms to renovate, expand, and construct public schools in Jordan. These contracts, worth over $67 million, are part of the U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID) commitment, in partnership with the Government of Jordan, to build 25 new schools, expand 120 schools, construct 300 kindergarten classrooms, and renovate 132 schools across Jordan to improve access to quality basic education.

Dr. Hazim El-Naser, Minister of Water and Irrigation (MWI) and with the attendance of  Ms. Nancy Eslick, Deputy Mission Director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Yarmouk Water Company (YWC) has announced on Monday, May 8, 2017 the launch of its new strategy and processes in a bid to roll out milestone initiatives to help the utility achieve its vision and improve performance to better provide water and wastewater services in northern governorates of Jordan.

Working in close collaboration, the United States government and the Ministry of Municipal Affairs have developed and launched a comprehensive Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Manual and training program for all 100 municipalities across Jordan. The manual and training modules were designed to equip mayors and municipal councils with the tools to diversify, create income-generating projects, and finance new facilities and infrastructure in their communities.

The user-friendly Jordan Knowledge Management Portal (KaMP), available at https://jordankmportal.com, gives users access to and the ability to share Jordan-specific information and resources related to development work.
