The U.S. Ambassador to India Richard R. Verma inaugurated today the third U.S.-India triangular training on “Emerging Trends in Fruits and Vegetable Marketing” at the CCS National Institute of Agricultural Marketing (NIAM) in Jaipur. The training is part of a $4 million collaborative partnership between the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and India’s Ministry of Agriculture titled “Feed the Future India Triangular Training Program.”
The World Health Organization (WHO) recently announced that the TB epidemic in India is larger than previously estimated, with approximately 2.8 million new cases in 2015. Despite a strong national control program, TB continues to be a leading cause of death in India. Even as the TB incidence rate and number of related deaths continues to fall, it claims 1,000 lives each day in India, most of which are poor and vulnerable people living in low income communities.
India is emerging as a leading global power and a key ally in the Indo-Pacific region. Despite India’s increased capacity to solve its development challenges, the world’s largest democracy faces the daunting task of providing quality services to its growing population of more than one billion people. The United States partners with India to promote security, stability, and economic prosperity through trade, investment and regional connectivity.
