Rita Sahoo contracted polio during her childhood, when the disease still caused death and disability among large numbers of Indian children and adults. Sahoo was sent by her family to live in an ashram (residential facility) at the age of four. As she got older, the ashram refused to keep her and she had to return home, where she lived with her parents, two sisters, and brother.
B Chinmayee is a classical Indian dancer from Odisha, a state on India’s eastern coast. After she was diagnosed with tuberculosis in 2017, a bout of TB meningitis left her paralyzed in a hospital, where she subsequently suffered a miscarriage and discovered that the serious but treatable disease was only the beginning of her challenges.
In 2018, the United States Government (USG) launched the Asia Enhancing Development and Growth through Energy (Asia EDGE) initiative to support the growth of sustainable and secure energy markets in the Indo-Pacific region. To support the implementation of Asia EDGE in South Asia, USAID/India established the South Asia Regional Energy Hub (SAREH).
The South Asia Group for Energy (SAGE) is a consortium comprising USAID, the United States Department of Energy (DOE) and three national laboratories: the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). The consortium represents excellence in research and international development in the energy sector to advance the Asia Enhancing Development and Growth through Energy (Asia EDGE) priorities in the South Asia region.
As part of the U.S. Government’s continuing support to India’s COVID-19 response, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) today announced two new awards totaling $5 million to Catalyst Management Service’s COVID Action Collaborative (CAC) and the Wadhwani Institute for Artificial Intelligence (Wadhwani AI).
