Les enfants malagasy méritent d’avoir le meilleur départ possible dans leur éducation et savoir lire et écrire est une compétence fondamentale. L’USAID Madagascar et le Ministère de l'Éducation nationale ont mis au point une nouvelle approche pour améliorer les méthodes d'apprentissage de la lecture chez les écoliers malagasy de la onzième à la neuvième. Il s’agit du programme «Mahay Mamaky Teny» (MMT) qui signifie «Je sais lire». Avec l'aide de la Banque Mondiale, l'USAID a lancé un projet pilote d'une durée de sept mois dans 60 écoles des régions d'Analamanga et de Boeny.
