In support of Egypt’s vital tourism industry, the thousands of people it employs, and the world heritage represented by Egypt’s cultural monuments, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has partnered with the Ministry of Antiquities on a number of conservation and training activities in Dra Abu El Naga and Khonsu Temple in Luxor.
A new service and training center for water and sanitation services that has been established in Assiut with funding support from the United States will provide services for more than 650,000 households. The center was inaugurated on August 1 by representatives from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the Assiut Potable Water and Sanitation Company, and Egypt’s Holding Company for Water and Wastewater.
Egypt and the United States, through the U.S. Agency for International Development, signed four bilateral assistance agreement amendments for $59 million on August 4. This assistance will support Egypt’s development priorities in the fields of health, higher education, trade, investment, science and technology. In line with Egypt’s Vision 2030 Sustainable Development Strategy, the agreements promote inclusive, enterprise-driven development.
Twenty Egyptian women have graduated from prominent universities in the U.S., all funded by the U.S. government as part of America’s support for economic development in Egypt. The women all received scholarships from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to pursue undergraduate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) degrees at universities in the United States.
In partnership with the Ministry of Education and the American University in Cairo, on July 22 the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and Ain Shams University inaugurated the third career center at the university. The new career center adds to the existing support provided by the U.S. government for the future of education and employment in Egypt.
Today, the U.S. Government through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with PepsiCo Egypt to expand cooperation between USAID and PepsiCo’s subsidiary Chipsy for Food Industries to improve farmer livelihoods. Specifically, the joint program will increase transparency and sustainability in the potato supply chain. Mr. Thomas Goldberger, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires; Mr. Mohamed Shelbaya, CEO of PepsiCo Egypt; and Ms. Sherry Carlin, the USAID Mission Director in Egypt participated in the event.
Today, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Ministry of Education and Technical Education (MOETE), and private sector partners celebrated the graduation of the first cohort of students from Egyptian technical schools’ logistics programs in Ismailia and Port-Said.
Today, students at Zagazig University have additional resources to prepare for and find jobs after they graduate. Zagazig University inaugurated three Centers for Career Development through a partnership between the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the Ministry of Higher Education, and the American University in Cairo. These Centers will have dedicated resources to offer students a chance to explore paths to successful careers in established industries, to improve their skills, and to network with Egypt’s leading companies.
During his visit to Egypt this week, Administrator for the United States Agency for International Development Mark Green launched three Centers of Excellence at an inaugural event hosted by Ain Shams University. The Centers, a $90 million investment by the American people, aim to create lasting partnerships between Egyptian public universities and prominent U.S. universities in order to foster high quality applied research and to build relationships among the education community, the private sector, and policymakers.
