U.S.-Donated Ventilators to Boost Kiribati’s Fight Against COVID-19

U.S. Ambassador to Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Tonga and Tuvalu Joseph Cella and Kiribati Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr. Tinte Itinteang formally launched a training program funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the Pacific Community (SPC) and Zoll Medical to help Kiribati medical technicians and doctors operate the 10 ventilators donated by the U.S. government.

On March 30, the Government of Zimbabwe announced a nation-wide lockdown to slow the spread of COVID-19.  People were instructed to stay home, and to only go out to buy groceries or medicine. Police set up roadblocks throughout the country, only allowing essential workers with a permit to travel.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) today announced $1.2 million for 10 small and medium-sized agribusinesses to address the economic fallout in emerging markets caused by COVID-19. Feed the Future Partnering for Innovation - a USAID-led program managed by Fintrac that is responsible for building partnerships with private-sector agribusinesses-is working with past partner companies to help them cope with the impact of COVID-19 and remain resilient during and after the pandemic.
