USAID Mission Director Mark Meassick delivers  14 new modern ventilators to Mombasa County to assist its fight against COVID-19.
November 1, 2020

This is the latest handover of ventilators as part of the United States’ promised donation of 200 ventilators throughout Kenya. The 200 ventilators are all being given directly to hospitals in need of lifesaving equipment. Prior to receiving the ventilators, the United States provided training for medical personnel on how to properly use and store them. When complete, the donation will supply much needed aid to hospitals throughout the country to help Kenyans struggling with COVID-19.

In a COVID-altered world, there will be, we can hope, a vaccine and greater enthusiasm for investments in global health. But we must remember that this is more than a healthcare crisis. There will be billions of victims of this pandemic who never caught the virus. And it will fall to USAID and like-minded donors around the world to rebuild what was lost. If we focus on the future while continuing to lead in the present, USAID will prove, yet again, why the United States remains the best friend of the developing world.

On October 28, 2020, Acting U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Barsa will deliver remarks and participate in a fireside chat at the American Enterprise Institute on the Over-the-Horizon (OTH) Strategic Review, a USAID initiative to prepare for lasting changes to the development and humanitarian landscape in a world altered by COVID-19.

To address the emerging needs for psychological support during the COVID-19 outbreak, USAID’s partner, UNICEF Kazakhstan joined Kazakhstan’s National Centre for Mental Health at the Ministry of Healthcare to launch a website that provides information and serves as a platform for individual online counselling services, meeting the needs of the population for psychological assistance, especially during the pandemic.

As part of the U.S. Government’s continuing support to India’s COVID-19 response, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) today announced two new awards totaling $5 million to Catalyst Management Service’s COVID Action Collaborative (CAC) and the Wadhwani Institute for Artificial Intelligence (Wadhwani AI).
