Today, the Government of Afghanistan and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) along with health development partners, commemorate World Tuberculosis (TB) Day to mobilize political and social commitment towards eliminating TB.
In Afghanistan, women remain under-represented in the workforce and face significant challenges, including persistent harassment, limited opportunities to education, and inadequate infrastructure or facilities.
Though marred by incidents of terror and violence, millions of Afghans risked their lives to vote in the Afghan Parliamentary Elections of October 2018. Among them were three million women in the province of Jowzjan, where they recorded the highest rate of women’s participation in the election at 53%.
The phenomenal progress of the media in Afghanistan is one of the most substantial achievements since the end of the Taliban era. In 2001, there were almost no print or broadcast outlets. Now, Afghanistan has hundreds of newspapers, television channels, radio stations, and web-based media outlets.
On the eve of Eid al-Adha (August 22, 2018), intense fighting broke out between the Taliban and the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces near a farmer named Asmatullah’s house in Greshk district, Helmand province.
