Afghanistan is a source, transit, and destination country for men, women, and children subjected to forced labour and sex-trafficking. The purpose of the Combating Human Trafficking in Afghanistan activity is to1) raise awareness of the problem, and 2) empower communities to take action and build the capacities within the Government of Afghanistan to implement and oversee The National Action Plan on Countering Trafficking in Persons through effective coordinated partnership with stakeholders in Afghanistan and in the region.
Education Quality Reform in Afghanistan (EQRA) seeks to increase equitable access to primary and secondary education, particularly for girls, in 17 selected provinces and improve learning conditions in Afghanistan. EQRA will introduce a shift from monitoring only student enrollment numbers (which include permanently absent students) to focusing on bringing children into school and tracking their attendance.
The United States Agency for International Development provided support to victims of conflict in Afghanistan through the United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund for Assistance in Mine Action, under the Afghan Civilian Assistance Program III. The program was designed to mitigate the impact of conflict, mines, and explosive remnants of war on civilians, enabling them to rebuild their lives following trauma. Assistance was provided through seven regional offices established across the country and was coordinated closely with government institutions such as the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Martyrs and the Disabled, the Afghanistan Protection Cluster, as well as civil society and non-governmental organizations and local communities.
