The United States, through USAID has committed an additional $10 million for humanitarian assistance in response to COVID-19 in Zimbabwe.

The United States Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), has committed an additional $10 million in response to COVID-19.  The funds will go to the World Food Programme (WFP) for humanitarian assistance for nearly 100,000 vulnerable people in eight urban areas.  With this additional funding, U.S. assistance to the COVID-19 response in Zimbabwe exceeds $18 million.  USAID has provided nearly $15 million, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has provided $3 million, and PEPFAR has reprogrammed $150,000 to address COVID-19.

The United States, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), has committed an additional $2 million in health assistance to support the people of Zimbabwe during the COVID-19 pandemic. U. S. assistance to Zimbabwe’s COVID-19 response now exceeds US$8 million.  USAID has now committed $5 million and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has provided $3 million. PEPFAR has committed $150,000.

The Feed the Future Zimbabwe FARM activity will target 20,000 households in Manicaland and Masvingo provinces.

USAID/Zimbabwe announces a new Feed the Future activity, Fostering Agribusiness for Resilient Markets (FARM).  The US$19.8 million, five-year contract with Chemonics International will commence in the next few months and will focus its efforts in Manicaland and Masvingo Provinces.

The United States has pledged US$470,000 to fight the spread of COVID-19 in Zimbabwe.  As of Friday, March 27, the World Health Organization (WHO) said over 530,000 people have been infected with COVID-19 worldwide and more than 24,000 people have died from the disease.  Zimbabwe declared its first case last weekend. Soon after this declaration, Zimbabwe announced two additional confirmed cases and the passing of Zororo Makamba on Tuesday, March 24.

USAID will work through the World Food Programme (WFP) to provide immediate food assistance to approximately 133,000 individuals affected by the cyclone in Chimanimani and Chipinge districts.

The United States Government has provided an additional contribution of US$2.5 million to respond to emergency needs in Zimbabwe following Cyclone Idai.  The contribution, provided through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Office of Food for Peace, will support immediate food needs in the most affected areas of Manicaland Province.
