Luapula, Zambia – The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Food for Peace Office (FFP), in partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP), has committed over $600,000 to support refugee food needs in Zambia’s Luapula Province. With funding provided by the American people, WFP Zambia will procure 800 metric tons of food, enough to feed roughly 15,000 refugees for three months. Most of the donation will consist of locally-purchased cereals, beans, and peas. The procurement will come from smallholder farmers and local aggregators to help benefit local wholesalers and stimulate the economy, while also being cost-effective for reaching nearby refugee settlements.
Lusaka – Zambia’s Minister of Health, the Honorable Dr. Chitalu Chilufya, officially received the newly renovated Tuberculosis Ward from the United States Ambassador to Zambia, Mr. Daniel L. Foote, during a formal handover ceremony at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).

With support from the United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Southern Africa Trade and Investment Hub, the Government of the Republic of Zambia’s Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Honorable Christopher Yaluma, today officially launched a strategy to ensure Zambian businesses are better positioned to take advantage of the United States’ African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA). With the potential to increase trade between Zambia and the United States, AGOA offers duty-free access to the U.S. market from Africa for over 6,500 products and was designed to boost trade and economic growth across the continent.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has joined the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development, Irish AID, Swedish International Development Agency, and the European Union to support the Zambian government to fight against malnutrition. On April 24, USAID/Zambia’s Mission Director, Patrick Diskin, signed a Letter of Intent affirming the United States’ support to the Zambian Government’s First 1000 Most Critical Days Program for Scaling Up Nutrition.
During a formal ceremony at the Kafue District Hospital, the United States Ambassador to Zambia, Mr. Daniel L. Foote, officially handed over the Kafue anti-Gender-Based Violence (GBV) One-Stop Center (OSC) to Zambia’s Minister of Health, Dr. Chitalu Chilufya. The handover symbolizes the official transfer of all 16 OSCs established under the USAID Stamping Out and Preventing Gender-Based Violence (STOP GBV) project with funding provided by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), in partnership with the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DfID).
This year, the United States Agency for International Development’s Office of American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (USAID/ASHA) helped open the Lubuto Mthunzi American Youth Library, increasing access to quality education for all young people especially the vulnerable and out-of-school children in the Lusaka-West area of Zambia’s capital.
