Earlier this month, USAID’s Enhanced Community HIV Link – Northern activity collaborated with PEPFAR to train 41 national and provincial news agency reporters in Nghe An and Dien Bien provinces. The training highlighted updated knowledge about HIV/AIDS programing in Vietnam; ethics in HIV communication; stigma and discrimination faced by people living with HIV (PLHIV); and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) issues. All of these topics were interlinked with an emphasis on the role CBOs are playing at all levels in HIV prevention and advocacy. Participants also interacted with and listened to compelling stories of CBO outreach workers, populations most at risk of HIV and PLHIV. So What? By engaging the media and building their capacity to produce high quality content, local and national reporting on the vital contribution of CBOs in Vietnam’s HIV response will be advanced, which will in turn help CBOs expand their role in HIV advocacy and prevention.
