As Vietnam transitions from donor-funded to locally-supported HIV/AIDS activities in Vietnam, CBOs will find it challenging to maintain community-based HIV prevention, care and support services to men who have sex with men, transgender women and people living with HIV. In response, last week, USAID’s Enhanced Community HIV Link - Southern activity in collaboration with Life Centre, a Ho Chi Minh City based NGO, trained 17 CBOs in Ho Chi Minh City to professionalize their services. The aim of the training was to establish best practices and enable CBOs to provide fee-based services to health facilities, the private sector, as well as governmental and non-governmental agencies. So What? As USAID works to strengthen host country ownership of a sustainable HIV/AIDS response, developing action and business plans will help CBOs sustain their HIV services and increase longevity.
