While Vietnam has progressed in developing quality laws, it faces many challenges when it comes to implementation. Ministries lack guidance on how to execute laws resulting in inconsistent interpretations by different government agencies which hinders their overall effectiveness. To help address this, USAID’s Governance for Inclusive Growth Program supported the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) to finalize and approve a strategy to renovate and take actions to improve the effectiveness of legal framework. Now, the MOJ is bringing together legal experts, researchers, law practitioners, and law enforcement officers to provide recommendations for the improvement of law enforcement in Vietnam. On May 25, USAID helped MOJ to organize the first of two workshops to support the nationwide implementation of the strategy in all agencies at the central and provincial levels.
So What? Improving the effectiveness and execution of Vietnamese laws will increase the transparency and accountability of state agencies, strengthen compliance with legal and judicial reforms, and promote more inclusive growth.
