Reaching key populations with prevention messages, encouraging them to get HIV testing, and linking them to HIV treatment are important for Vietnam to achieve epidemic control. With the development of digital technology, interaction on social media platforms is increasing dramatically, especially among men who have sex with men (MSM). Thus, reaching MSM online is an effective approach to introduce them to HIV prevention services. On March 22, USAID’s Enhanced Community HIV Link – Southern project trained members of 17 CBOs in Ho Chi Minh City on how to conduct quality real-time communication. The techniques and skills learned from the training will help CBOs diversify their communication methods to reach their clients in a more interactive and eye-catching way, and thus promote changes in behavior and introduce them to HIV services.
So What? USAID is progressively building local capacity while building self-reliance for Vietnam’s HIV response to local stakeholders. With enhanced communication and advocacy skills, CBOs will not only reach their target audience but also gain government, donor and community support.
