Rehabilitation services are crucial in helping persons with disabilities develop or restore their daily functions, like dressing themselves up and eating without help, the enabling factor for social participation. Despite its significance, rehabilitation services in Vietnam have remained underdeveloped. To address this, USAID is helping Vietnam’s rehabilitation hospitals and medical centers improve their management capacity for rehabilitation services. This includes improving treatment results, rehabilitation staffing, infrastructure, financial management, internal procedures, and protocols.

On June 11-14, USAID’s Advancing Medical Care and Rehabilitation Education project held a national workshop in Hanoi to introduce an advanced rehabilitation management system in Vietnam. It was attended by rehabilitation directors from national and provincial hospitals, the Ministry of Health, and the Vietnam Rehabilitation Association. The rehabilitation management system has been used in over 20 countries around the world to assess the quality of rehabilitation services management and is critical in ensuring quality rehabilitation services are provided to persons with disabilities and other clients.

So What? USAID support to build an international-standard rehabilitation service system in Vietnam will ensure effective services are provided to persons with disabilities, enabling them to lead an independent, productive, and fulfilling life.
