While Vietnam has made great efforts and achieved much progress in law development in recent years, the country’s law implementation remains complex, and at times uncoordinated and weak. In February, Vietnam’s Prime Minister launched an initiative to reform and enhance law implementation in Vietnam for the 2018-2022 period with a goal to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the country’s legal system.

On July 3, USAID’s Governance for Inclusive Growth Program supported the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) to organize a legal forum to facilitate technical discussions on proposed measures to effectively implement this effort. The forum, attended by over 150 participants, including representatives from more than 30 foreign embassies and international organizations, reviewed ways to strengthen the coordination and partnerships among international and national partners, central and local agencies, and state and non-state actors. The forum built on the success of the two previous USAID-supported legal forums: one on the 2015 Civil Code, and one on access to justice for the poor and vulnerable groups in Vietnam.

So what? Helping Vietnam improve its law implementation is of significant importance to achieving its vision of inclusive development and international economic integration.
