E-commerce business in Vietnam is growing at a rate of more than 20% per year. As a result, traffickers and criminal networks are increasingly exploiting e-commerce websites, courier service companies, and social media platforms to trade in illicit wildlife products. In response to this, on the 9th and 18th January, the USAID Saving Species project supported the Vietnam E-commerce Association (VECOM) to organize two workshops for approximately 100 member enterprises.  Participants were educated on how wildlife cybercrime can create legal risks and reflect badly on a company’s reputation and revenue. Forty-two entrepreneurs signed a pledge committing to not use or promote illegal wildlife products. Enterprises also proposed further joint actions with USAID to integrate messages on wildlife demand reduction in their internal communications as well as external business activities.

So What?  With support from USAID, Ecommerce enterprises are spreading anti-trafficking messages throughout their networks, their companies, their clients and beyond, helping to combat wildlife crime online.
