Gender budgeting is a strategy to achieve equality between women and men by incorporating a gender perspective at all levels of the budgetary process and restructuring revenues and expenditures in order to promote gender equality.

On January 26, as part of its assistance to strengthen the National Assembly’s (NA) oversight functions, USAID’s Governance for Inclusive Growth Program and the NA’s Committee for Finance and Budget Affairs trained provincial representatives and NA deputies’ support staff to improve their capacity in gender budgeting approaches. Participants learned about gender-responsive budgeting policies and guidance managed by the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Ministry of Finance to support gender provisions in the revised 2015 State Budget Law.

So What? Assessing how the budget meets the needs of different groups (including women) promotes inclusion and transparency while strengthening the effectiveness of the NA’s budget oversight.
