Vietnam will become the Chair of the Asian Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) for the 2018-2021 period, which will put the country’s auditing capacity in the spotlight. In addition, public sector performance auditing capacity is currently limited in Vietnam, particularly on environmental issues. Hence, to strengthen capacity in this area, USAID supported three auditors from the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia to visit Vietnam from July 30 to August 7 in order to mentor the State Audit Office of Vietnam’s (SAV’s) environmental audit team to complete an audit report on environmental management at industrial parks in Bac Ninh Province. The Indonesian environmental team, which is highly regarded by other audit institutions in the region, helped review the final findings and recommendations of this report and shared Indonesian experiences on environmental auditing with the SAV team.

So What? Improving the capacity of SAV, the Supreme Audit Institution of Vietnam and the Vietnamese equivalent to the U.S. Government Accountability Office, contributes to the enhanced oversight of government activities.
