On April 6, with support USAID’s Disability Rights Enforcement Coordination and Therapy (DIRECT) activity, the General Hospital of Binh Phuoc province officially opened its first ever rehabilitation unit and occupational therapy lab. Equipped with modern facilities and well-trained staff, the new unit can provide persons with disabilities with both physical and occupational therapies. In addition to USAID’s support, Binh Phuoc’s business community contributed roughly $12,000 to help establish the new unit.

So What? The Unit’s newly available technologies, rehabilitation resources, and services will allow Binh Phuoc General Hospital to better serve the province’s persons with disabilities, and thereby help them lead higher quality and more productive lives. Such facilities are a key component of the sustainable model for disabled people’s inclusion that USAID is working to create in Vietnam.
