The Tunisia Accountability, Decentralization, and Effective Municipalities (TADAEEM or “Consolidation”) Project supports the principle that an effective government that fosters collaboration between institutions and citizens will contribute to a more democratic and inclusive society. TADAEEM works with Government of Tunisia officials and other partners – especially at the local and regional levels – to help in developing more effective ways to provide public services, ensuring that essential amenities are provided in an inclusive, efficient and accountable manner.
Through work with Tunisian civil society and media organizations (CSOs), the Domestic Election Monitoring – Tunisia (DEMT) project helps to improve the integrity of Tunisia’s elections and associated procedures. Building on previous USAID assistance during the 2011 Constituent Assembly elections and the 2014 presidential and legislative elections, the project promotes capable citizen oversight of Tunisian elections and helps to lay the groundwork for greater citizen oversight of the performance of newly elected officials.
The Supporting Youth and Empowering Local Communities (SHAREKNA, “to participate, involve, or engage with us”) project fosters social cohesion and community resilience in disadvantaged communities. It partners with young people and local stakeholders to identify community-level challenges, including drivers of violent extremism, and develop community-driven actions to address them; provides resources to youth and community stakeholders to implement concrete activities to mitigate identified local challenges; and builds the capacity of local civil society organizations to collaborate with youth and community stakeholders so that they can continue to identify and address local challenges.
On September 28, 2016, American Ambassador to Tunisia Daniel Rubinstein travelled to Kssour Essaf in Mahdia Governorate to highlight the U.S. Government's commitment to supporting inclusive economic growth, competitiveness, and job creation throughout Tunisia.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) supports Tunisia’s democratic and economic transition as the Tunisian people consolidate the gains of the 2011 Jasmine Revolution. By advancing an inclusive, accountable political system and dynamic, private sector-led economic growth, USAID assistance promotes prosperous and resilient communities across the country. Since 2011, USAID has provided approximately $300 million to support Tunisia’s economic growth and democracy.
