The U.S. Embassy in Dili’s USAID project, Tourism For All (TFA) has prepared an initiative that will assist the Government of Timor-Leste and Timorese businesses recover from the loss of revenue since the COVID-19 pandemic. The project aims to stimulate tourism demand, assist small and medium enterprises and connect Timor-Leste’s tourism pioneers to the international tourism industry.
The U.S. Embassy in Timor-Leste and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) are pleased to share that the renowned global environmental group, Mission Blue, has designated the pristine waters of the Ombai-Wetar Strait as a global “Mission Blue Hope Spot”. The USAID Tourism for All Project worked with the Association Turizmu Maritima Timor-Leste (ATM-TL) to achieve this designation. Today on World Oceans Day, the Embassy, USAID and many Timorese will celebrate this achievement.
The United States is investing $500,000 in the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to prevent COVID-19 in Timor-Leste, U.S. Ambassador Kathleen Fitzpatrick, USAID Mission Director Jim Wright and UNICEF Country Representative Valérie Taton said today in a presentation to the Director General of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Odete da Silva Viegas.
To: All Interested Respondents/Parties: The USAID/Timor-Leste Local Works Program is designed to advance locally led development and enhance the Agency’s ability to empower local actors to take the lead in addressing the development challenges (https://www.usaid.gov/localworks). It will identify the priorities of Timorese youth and support youth in leading productive lives where their voices are heard. The Local Works program is currently designing a broad listening tour, which will include focus group and individual discussions with youth and other local stakeholders across the 13 districts of Timor-Leste. This Request for Information (RFI) seeks to identify local entities and individuals with capabilities needed to support the listening tour.
Critical medical supplies vital to Timor-Leste’s fight against the novel coronavirus pandemic are moving faster from ship to shore and into the hands of health workers, thanks to efforts by the United States to fast-track customs clearance of COVID-19 material.
