Feed the Future Tanzania Mboga na Matunda (“Vegetables and Fruits”) increases the productivity of horticulture activities that add value to product, while integrating women and youth. Through collaboration with dozens of private sector partners, the activity stimulates women’s engagement in horticulture by training them in crop production, technologies, markets, access to inputs, and nutrition. Currently, of the over 50,000 individuals trained by the activity, 47 percent are women.

The USAID Afya Endelevu (“Sustainable Health”) activity supports the Government of Tanzania to address human resources for health (HRH) gaps at the national, regional, and local government levels. The purpose of the Afya Endelevu activity is to develop and implement sustainable approaches to HRH recruitment, deployment, and management. The activity also supports the delivery of quality HIV and reproductive, maternal and child health services, and facilitates effective transitioning of contracted health care workers into the Government of Tanzania's HRH system.

Private sector-led growth has the potential to sustainably generate jobs and economic opportunities for Tanzania’s growing population, particularly youth, while contributing tax revenue for public goods and services. The private sector also offers innovation, technical expertise, and efficient distribution of goods and services.
