On May 7, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Deputy Administrator  Bonnie Glick met with faith-based and private sector leaders in San Diego, California.  First, the Deputy Administrator met with Chaldean Bishop Mar Emanuel Shelata and members of the Middle Eastern Christian diaspora to discuss closer engagement with them on USAID's efforts to help communities recover from the genocide, perpetrated by the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, and shared views on opportunities for future partnership.

Deputy Administrator Glick gave remarks at the Accord Network Annual Executive Retreat, where she emphasized USAID's commitment to engage new and underutilized organizations and businesses through the New Partnerships Initiative.

The Deputy Administrator also met with the private sector, including Qualcomm leadership, to discuss strategic partnership opportunities with USAID in emerging markets, in accordance with USAID's focus on enterprise-led development.  Finally, Deputy Administrator Glick met with the President and CEO of Bumble Bee Foods and Anova Seafoods to discuss lessons-learned from USAID's efforts to promote sustainable seafood practices in Indonesia.
