Primary school students in the Peruvian Amazon have lagged far behind in early-grade reading skills. USAID helped introduce new teaching methodologies that increased reading performance scores by 25%. USAID is working with the Government of Peru to scale-up this approach and reach children throughout Peru.
El Programa de Pasantía de Comunidades Afro-Peruanas e Indígenas (APIC) de USAID/Perú proporciona pasantías profesionales subvencionadas a recién egresados o estudiantes del último año de universidad, buscando desarrollar una mayor capacidad profesional con el fin de incrementar el liderazgo en las regiones con bajo nivel de desarrollo económico y en los grupos étnicos tradicionalmente marginados.
USAID supports the Government of Peru’s National Strategy for Combating Drugs by providing alternatives to coca cultivation and strengthening Peruvian capacity confront drug mafias. This model has been enormously successful and has lifted thousands of rural Peruvian families out of poverty by shifting them away from coca cultivation.
