Accord with Gates, Dangote foundations supports two vulnerable states

USAID Mission Director Stephen M. Haykin recently joined the Sultan of Sokoto, Minister of Health Isaac Adewole, philanthropists Bill Gates and Aliko Dangote, and the governors of Bauchi and Sokoto states by video teleconference to sign two agreements to expand access to quality, affordable health care in the two states.

Since 2011, the President's Malaria Initiative has provided 24 million nets for Nigeria

At a ceremony held March 15, the United States handed over 1.6 million long lasting insecticide treated mosquito nets as part of its comprehensive effort to control malaria across Nigeria. The donation was made possible through the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) and jointly implemented by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  The bed nets, valued at $4.5 million, will be distributed in all local government areas (LGAs) in the state.

'TOLERANCE' activity helped mitigate ethno-religious tensions

Non-formal education helped mainstream traumatized children and youth

Since 2014, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has provided a peaceful environment for basic education and psycho-social support to more than 80,000 out-of-school youth in five conflict-affected states in northeast Nigeria.  Many of these children and youth, particularly girls and the physically challenged, have been traumatized by violence and are unable to access mainstream education.
